In today’s Washington Post it was announced that Nancy Pelosi has enlisted the help of marketing/branding “experts” in order to give the Democrat party a new image.  One of the names on the list of experts is believed to be none-other than legendary film producer/director Steven Spielberg.

This prompting to re-brand the party is, no doubt, due to the fact that the Democrat party not only received a spanking in the November elections, but also, the Pelosi led congress has record low approval numbers.  I would re-brand too if the entire nation viewed me as the enemy.  More important than not looking like the enemy, however, is actually NOT being their enemy!

Below is an outline for Spielberg to follow if he wants to be victorious in his efforts:

1.      Separation from President Obama:

It has become clear to everyone that the current administration has become toxic.  President Obama has increased war spending and deployment, which he ran against.  He has increased the government’s involvement in rescinding privacy rights for Americans, which he campaigned against.  He had promised an increased respect from nations around the world and instead has delivered a situation where he, along with America in general, has become a weaker laughingstock than we have been in generations.  President Obama is Bush 2.0. If a rebrand is going to be effective in an election year, then a primary challenger who carries the new banner must be selected and promoted this spring when the GOP is going to start its positioning.  The fact is, anyone who is not a Democrat will not vote for Obama again, Democrats are becoming disgusted by his lack of ability (which he himself admitted he didn’t have enough experience to be President), anyone who was opposed to Bush could not vote for Obama without being a hypocrite, so the only sure vote he can count on are from the ignorant who vote on name recognition. Which is why insiders are starting to float the word already that he just might not seek a second term.  (shhh, you aren’t supposed to know yet)

2.      Resignation of Nancy Pelosi:

This re-branding she is leading can be her swan song.  She is responsible for the lowest approval numbers in anyone who is living’s memory. You cannot have a re-branding if you are keeping the very icon of the original brands demise! This will also allow her to leave the national stage on her own terms.  If she stays, the re-brand cannot be party wide, for there are members of the party who have, on the own, started to recognize that they need to separate themselves from her in order to win their districts.  A “half” re-brand would make the whole re-brand effort look like a foolish attempt to trick the American people into voting for something that the party really doesn’t represent, and we all know what happens when you lie to the American people.

3.      Return the party to what the party has traditionally stood for:

Yes, there are a few people out in the country who believe in socialism and ultra-liberal agendas. For the most part, however, the people who have made up the voting base of the Democrat party have been people who were for freedom, for American workers, for quality education, for independence as a nation, quality health care, for bringing back jobs to America, and for government accountability.  Pelosi, and those who follow her lead, have been “anti” everything that the base has traditionally been for.  The reason they have been able to get away with it in recent years is two-fold. First, the hatred for President Bush; where people who opposed him where willing to look to anything and anyone who would be against him. Second, the traditional Democrat voter took for granted that anyone with a (D) after his/her name would be for the same things they were for. Those days have ended, as evident in polling, and more importantly, voting results.

4.      Hope that the incoming class becomes weak like Democrats/Republicans

The incoming congress was elected NOT because they were listed on your ballot as Republican.  Matter of fact, if they weren’t listed as Republican, more of them would have won. The reason this class of fresh faces are heading to Washington D.C. is because they ran as independent thinking Americans.  They cast off party loyalty (as the founders urged) and ran on stances most Democrat/Republican incumbents wouldn’t even address. These “non-electables” did what every political expert would tell a politician to never do, and it worked.

Now, the only hope for the Democrat party as a whole has would be if these incoming independents do what the Democrat/Republican party has done before them, and that is sell their soul.  If these newbies do not hold their ground, if they compromise for the sake of fake “political bi-partisanship”, or succumb to the political machine that has destroyed both parties and most the country, then, and only then, can this lame attempt at re-branding the crap we didn’t want have a chance of working. Even then, it is not because the re-brand helped, it is because once again those who we elect to lead become turn-coats and sacrifice their fellow countrymen for the sake of power/greed.

If Spielberg is going to turn this “re-brand” into anything other than a Daily Show punch line, he needs to realize that most people still love this country, most people have a moral compass, and most people want to be free and want to extend that freedom to others.  This is what the Tea Party has been able to touch on in the hearts of people and the reason why all the Democrat/Republican “experts” have been in disbelief of what the “non-electable” have been able to accomplish.

The American people would rather have someone in office who actually believes in what they are saying, even if they don’t always agree, rather than someone who will say whatever needs to be said in order to win an election. [example: Jesse Ventura’s win in Minnesota. The man is dead wrong on religion’s place in America, but I would vote for that man based solely on I know where he stands, and he actually stands! He wants what’s best for his country, and while we may not agree on how to accomplish that goal, it is still a shared goal.] When we take all the politicians, pundits, consultants, lobbyists, and other hacks out of the picture, the vast majority of Americans have more in common with each other than the manipulators allow them to believe.  Both “sides’” voters are against out-sourcing, they are for privacy, they are for freedom, they are for living their own life, and letting their neighbor live theirs.

This re-brand carries with it the potential to ultimately backfire.  There is a huge awakening, a shift.  The people are becoming educated and they are waking up to the fact that for the past hundred years, or so, the politicians whom they once trusted have been doing everything in their power to lull the citizens to sleep in order to strip us of our sovereignty, dignity, potential, finances, resources, and future.  Gone are the days where you can lie to our face, kiss our babies, and get away with plundering this great nation (and others for that matter) in order to facilitate your nation crippling, power grabbing actions! To all those politicians who think America is their “Milk cow with 310 million tits” (Quote from Senator Simpson – Wyoming), you can kiss something else, but I promise you, it isn’t a baby.

Spielberg will most likely try to spin the ultra-liberal (neo-lib) agenda into something more palatable to the American people. He will go “Hollywood” with it, the problem is, Hollywood is waking up too! Sorry sir, that just isn’t going to cut it.  You can not slap a fresh coat of paint on the trash the American people threw out of their House this past November and expect it to work. The sad part is, I am sure Spielberg himself wouldn’t want what Nancy and the Democrat impostors are selling if he took the time to see who is trying to hire him.  He seems too smart for that.  It’s time to sell crazy somewhere else.

No, now is not the time to re-brand, it’s time to re-build.

Logic, reason, and heart are slowing rebuilding in this country and unless the neocons and neolibs succeed in stopping greatness from returning (wow, have they been trying), the days of an easily manipulated populace are coming to an end.  People realize that at the highest levels the dual parties not only do not promote what they say they stand for, but are really two sides of the same useless coin.

I know how the Democrats (or any politician) could walk away with a win, and keep winning for two or more election cycles…but I’m not telling.

*UPDATE: Yahoo’s “The Ticket” is reporting that Steven Spielberg agrees with me.  He will not be helping the Democrat party re-brand itself. Well don’t Mr. Spielberg.

  1. This article is blunt! But I like it. I love the fact that it wasn’t pro anyone, just stating the facts.

See, this guy is the type of guy we need in the media. Blunt, to the point, not hating on any group (which I’m getting sick of) and pointing out the truth!

Well done. Can’t wait to see your opinion on more political topics.

  2. Great Job. It is so refreshing to read a piece that has real strategic meat as opposed to just political hot air.

It also appears as if Spielberg may agree with you as his people put out a statement distancing himself from Pelosi and the Democrat Party.

  3. Can I just say what a relief to find someone who actually knows what they’re talking about on the internet. You absolutely know how to bring an issue to light and make it captivating. More people need to read this and understand this side of the story. I cant believe youre not more popular because you definitely have the gift.
